2024 Labrador Wildfires: A Story of Community Resilience

I had just signed off on a Friday night when I received a text from my manager. “Fire in Labrador. Are you able to go?” “Absolutely!” I replied. Having only recently joined the Canadian Red Cross, I was keen to get a deployment under my belt. The challenge of course is that communities in Labrador are quite remote, so getting there isn’t always easy.

Providing support to teachers as classes resume during COVID-19

As COVID-19 infection numbers began to rise earlier this year, it quickly became evident how serious the situation was as workplaces and schools were forced to shut their doors. No one could have predicted the challenges and emotional hardships faced by teachers, parents and guardians, and children. Now, as everyone prepares for a new school year, new challenges have surfaced, leading to uncertainty about what lies ahead.
 

Community grant aids support to Arabic immigrants and refugees during COVID-19

Using funds provided by the Canadian Red Cross to help non-profits provide frontline services during COVID-19, ICS has organized food box distributions in cities across Ontario.
